Project brief

We were commissioned by Parc Cendedlaethol Eryri to design this replacement Visitor Centre, which opened in 2013.
Ogwen Cottage (Cwm Idwal) - exterior showing curved roofline and benches

Design details

Designed to comfortably sit within its stunning surroundings, using local materials which are widely used and seen in the Parc, in an alternative way. The stonework is laid on an angle to emulate the harsh and dramatic angled ridges and mountain faces by which the structure is encompassed. The slabs were glacial boulders saw cut by Welsh Slate, the first time this was attempted. The project won an LABC Wales Award for Sustainability.
